TSC Job Group Set For Biggest Salary Increment In July 2024. TSC employed teachers are set to reap big beginning July 2024. The teachers are set for phase 2 salary increment. Phase 1 salary pay rise got into effect in July 2023. This is in line with the Collective bargaining agreement signed between TSC and the teachers unions.
In regards to this, the Teachers service commission in collaboration with the teachers unions have identified the top earners. These are teachers who are set to reap big from the anticipated salary increment. These teachers have worked in their current grades and positions for a period exceeding 10 years.
The Kenya union of post primary education teachers expressed it’s displeasure in the manner in which promotions were conducted. Over 50,000 teachers in job group C4 and C5 who were qualified for promotions were locked out recently.
The above mentioned teachers have stagnated in the same job group for more than 10 years. This is according to a research done by KUPPET.
TSC held a meeting recently in Naivasha with the teachers’ unions. The unions urged the national government to allocate an extra one billion shillings to the Teachers service commission. This amount will be used in promoting over 30,000 teachers.

The above mentioned teachers lie in the same category of 50,000 teachers stagnated in the same job group for many years. The promotions will act as a sigh of relief to them.
According to the KUPPET secretary General Akello Misori , the promotions are majorly targeting teachers in job group C4 and C5. These teachers have stagnated in the same job group for several years.
Additionally, the secretary general highlighted the importance of these promotions. He affirmed that these teachers will be promoted to job group C5 and D1. Consequently, this will bring a gap in the job groups they have left giving an opportunity to C3 teachers to be promoted.
Nevertheless, the teachers union indicated that several teachers were overlooked in the recently concluded promotions. The teachers were in job group C4 and were 7,400 in number. The reason for them being locked out of promotions is that they haven’t finished three years in their current grades.

Consequently, a good number of teachers is anticipating for full implementation of the agreement signed between TSC and the teachers’ unions.
Additionally, the commission has laid down plans to hire junior secondary school teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. Most of these teachers are working under internship . The commission is waiting for allocation of funds to employ these teachers upon approval by parliament.
