TSC Intern Teachers Confirmation Finally Approved. The Budget and Appropriations Committee urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday to confirm all intern junior secondary school teachers.
Teachers to be confirmed are people who completed an internship program and will now have permanent and pensionable positions.
This Committee’s chair, Ndindi Nyoro, who is also the Kiharu MP, verified that appropriate money were provided for the project in the fiscal year 2024-2025, with government contributions.
Nyoro assured the panel that resources are now available to help the JSS interns move into long-term, pensionable positions.
Nyoro also directed the TSC to hire all 46,000 interns who participated in the scheme. He highlighted that the recruiting process would be reliant on budget approval, as opposed to the prior plan, which called for hiring in January 2025.

He asked the TSC to complete the intern verification process, emphasizing the importance of not delaying confirmation until January 2025.
Despite their low stipends, Nyoro recognized the teachers’ service to the nation. Following the signing of a return-to-work agreement on Saturday, June 1, junior secondary school intern teachers halted their three-week strike in response to legislative demands.
This occurred during the Madaraka Day Accord, which saw teachers agree to resume their work on Monday, June 3.
TSC made substantial concessions by withdrawing all show-cause letters issued to teachers involved in the strike.
TSC, on the other side, agreed to reinstate teachers whose registrations had been invalidated and to compensate those whose salary had been withheld as a result of their strike participation.
Interestingly, some JSS instructors chose not to complete retraining after earning permanent posts with pensions, as specified in the return-to-work agreement.
The commission is also expected to hire more interns to handle the current demand. The Advert for intern teachers 2024 recruitment will be on the TSC website anytime from next week.
