Pay Boom For Teachers Following New Salary Deal With TSC. The Kenyan teachers employed by the teachers service commission have been assured of a huge salary increment. This is after confirmation of a signed deal. The deal involved Kenya union of post primary education teachers(KUPPET), the Kenya national union of teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya union of special needs education teachers(KUSNET).
This will be the second phase of the salary increment. It is expected to be paid in July 2024.
This salary deal for teachers was captured in the 2021- 2025 CBA. The purpose of the collective bargaining agreement was meant to cushion teachers from the harsh economic times. Additionally, it was meant to act as a relief to the new statutory deductions introduced on the teachers’ payslips.
The CBA signing agreement was conducted at the Kenya school of government. It was officiated by the union’s secretary general.
In the signed agreement, the lowest paid teachers will be expecting a 9.5 percent basic salary review. In addition, the highest paid teacher will pocket a payrise of 2.4 percent on their basic salary. Under phase 1 salary increment, it was backdated to July 1st 2023.

Under this pay deal ,house allowance rates for teachers in small towns and rural areas was adjusted upwards.

Based on the signed CBA, teachers at grade C2 had a salary rise of ksh. 4164. C2 is the entry grade for graduate teachers entering the profession.
In addition, those teachers under job group C3 will pocket a salary pay rise of sh. 5141.
To sum up, teachers at the peak under job grade D5 got an increment of sh. 4883. In the talks during the negotiations, KUPPET secretary General Akello Misori opposed the salaries and remuneration ceiling of salaries for grade C5 teachers.
Additionally, teachers working in rural areas and emerging towns got an increment on their house allowance rates. The grade C2 teachers got an increment of ksh. 2,100 . Nonetheless, the grade D4 teachers got an increment of ksh 8,700 .
The salary increment rates and house allowance rates was based on the clusters that teachers fall in.
KUPPET pledged to keep negotiating with TSC for full implementation of phase 2 salary increment. Additionally harmonization of house allowance rates will be factored together with commuter rates for Nairobi City.
