Minimum Set English & Kiswahili Grades For Joining Teaching. Individuals willing to enter and enroll in the teaching profession must meet some minimum set conditions. These minimum conditions are normally revised every now and again.
The Teachers service commission has set new minimum Maths and English grades required for one to enter the profession. This is as per the 2024 Amendment Bill.
According to the newly released regulations for the teaching profession, anyone willing to join the teaching profession must prove their eligibility.
This is by ensuring they have the minimum TSC threshold requirements.
In regards to the above issues, all regulations set by TSC regarding the teaching profession must be adhered to. This is because TSC is the teachers’ employer.
Registration guidelines for all teachers have now been set by TSC. The guidelines have been set for the following categories of teachers;
- ECDE teachers with Montessori training
- Teachers with one teaching subject
- Teachers with certificates from foreign teaching institutions
- Teachers trained under special needs
NEW ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHER REGISTRATION UNDER CBC CURRICULUM
- DIPLOMA TRAINED TEACHERS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION(DECTE).
Minimum of C plain in KCSE & a certificate in DECTE.
Interested candidates in this course but living with disabilities must have attained a C – (minus).
2. DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY TEACHER EDUCATION
The individual must posses a certificate and a minimum grade of C plain in KCSE.
Minimum of D in Mathematics & C- in English
Disability candidates only require a C- in KCSE
3. DIPLOMA IN SECONDARY TEACHER EDUCATION(DSTE).
A certificate is a mandatory requirement during registration.
Minimum requirement of C in KCSE and a C+ in two teaching subjects.
C in English language, Kiswahili/ Kenya sign language and Mathematics.
Additionally, candidates living with disabilities must have attained a C in KCSE exams and a C in two teaching subjects.
A minimum of a C- is also required in English, Kiswahili, Sign language and Mathematics subjects.
4. DIPLOMA IN TECHNICAL TEACHER EDUCATION
Minimum of C in KCSE.
Minimum of C+ in two related STEM technical subjects
Additionally, they must have diploma in general technical subjects offered at junior and senior schools.

5. BACHELOR IN EDUCATION OR BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION
For those enrolling for a degree, a C+ in KCSE is mandatory. Additionally, they must have a C+ in two teaching subjects. A C in English and D+ in mathematics is mandatory.
6. BACHELOR OF ARTS OR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
Minimum of C+ in KCSE.
C+ in two teaching subjects. Additionally they should have a post graduate diploma in Education.
7. DIPLOMA IN ADULT AND CONTINUING TEACHER EDUCATION
A certificate with a C plain and above in KCSE is mandatory for this course.
Individuals abled differently must have a C – grade.
