List Of Subjects Under CBC Senior School. Kenya is in the transition period under the education sector. The old 8.4.4 Curriculum is being replaced by 2.6.3.3.3.
The new curriculum is referred to as the competency-based curriculum. It was rolled out and the pioneer class is now in grade 8.
Next year, they are set to transition to grade 9 still being domiciled under primary school.
New learning areas have so far been introduced. The government has provided books that have been reviewed and approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
Additionally, curriculum designs have also been made available to guide teachers in handling the learning areas.
Initially, in junior schools, there were 14 learning areas. 12 were made Compulsory and another 2 optional.

However, due to the huge workload and inadequate human resource, the government through KICD opted to merge the learning areas to a total of 9.
At the moment the KICD is in a race against time to develop Curriculum designs for senior school. This is owing to the fact that in 2026 the first cohort will transition to senior secondary.
This move is meant to refine the senior school as that’s where core subjects will be handled. Additionally, learners will have to choose a pathway that suits their abilities.
As a result of this major comprehensive process,the KICD is fully reviewing 46 subjects.
The learning areas under review are as follows;
1. English
2. Kiswahili
