Entry Requirements For TTC Revised. The Ministry of Education (MOE) of the government has updated the prerequisites and entry criteria for applicants to teacher training colleges (TTCs).
Students who want to teach in elementary and secondary schools are trained by TTCs.
In the past, to be eligible for this course, students had to receive a C (Plain) in maths, English, and Kiswahili.
Furthermore, they required a C in a humanities and science course in order to be eligible for primary school teacher training.
PWPER, the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, suggested the modification. It now requires students to receive an average of C (Plain) in all courses. English, Kiswahili, and maths will not be included in this.
The suggestions state that a C grade and a C+ in two disciplines are the minimal qualifications for people who want to teach in secondary schools.
Entry Requirements For TTC Revised
The Kenya Teachers Colleges Principals Association (KTCPA) claims that they have requested that the Ministry of Education send out circulars to TTCs. This will allow them to put these new entry requirements into effect.
The KTCPA chairman, Paul Barasa, stated that these updated requirements are of great national significance. It highlights the need for instructors to have a solid grasp of their speciality subjects.
Prior to today, specialisation needed at least a C+ grade; however, this has been changed to a C (average) grade.
Additionally, Mr. Barasa emphasised that competency-based teacher education programmes have been embraced by all Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
Thus, programmes such as the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education. Additionally, Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education are offered by both public and private TTCs.
The education stakeholders hope to drawing more prospective teachers to TTCs with low enrollment rates. In this regard, revised entry criteria will help them.
There are issues like low enrollment numbers, insufficient parent fee payments, and inadequate budget allocations. This had made some TTCs to currently enroll less than twenty pupils.
