Deployment Of C Plain P1 Teachers To JSS. Lower standards have been set by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for the assignment of primary school instructors to junior schools.
For educators who hold degrees but received a simple C in their mean KCSE grade and the two subjects they teach, this is a boon.
In a communication dated July 4, 2024, TSC asked to be provided with information about instructors employed in elementary schools who had diplomas and degrees from secondary schools and KCSE scores of C simple and above.
The Commission is currently dealing with a backlash from junior school intern teachers who are demanding to be confirmed to permanent positions, which coincides with the relaxation of deployment conditions.
A total of 46,000 instructors working as interns are employed by TSC. In February 2023, 21,550 junior school and 4,000 primary school intern instructors were hired.
April 2023, 450 intern instructors for secondary schools were hired. In September 2023, 18,000 junior school and 2,000 primary school intern instructors were hired.

Following pressure from Generation Z, President William Ruto revoked the Finance Bill, which put a halt to the proposal to confirm the intern teachers on PNP conditions.
Ruto stated in an interview that there aren’t any immediate plans to confirm the teachers because of financial limitations.
Prior to this, in order to be promoted to junior school, P1 teachers with a secondary choice degree in education but a C average on the KCSE had to submit a diploma.
A memo that was made public by the Commission is shown below.
